Tamil Nadu govt formation LIVE updates: The Congress has extended its support to actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the new government in Tamil Nadu after its superhit debut in the recently held Assembly elections. The Congress, however, made it clear that the alliance will not include any “communal forces”.
“Our support shall be conditional upon the TVK keeping out from this alliance any communal forces that do not believe in the Constitution of India,” said a statement by Girish Chodankar, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Tamil Nadu.
The Congress on Tuesday said that Vijay has sought its support for forming government in the state. Vijay’s newly formed TVK, made a blockbuster debut in the Tamil Nadu elections as it emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly election. The TVK secured 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. However, it is 10 seats short of the 118-seat majority needed.
