Tamil Nadu elections: DMK releases first list of candidates, to contest 164 seats

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Saturday announced the first list of DMK candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in the state. Stalin will contest from Kolathur assembly constituency while deputy CM Udhayanidhi has been fielded from Thousand Lights Assembly constituency.

Stalin, looking to retain power in the southern state, in a press briefing, mentioned that DMK list includes 18 women, 15 doctors, and 29 lawyers.

Panneerselvam nominated from Bodinayakkanur

Former chief minister O Panneerselvam, who was removed from AIADMK, has been fielded from Bodinayakkanur. Senthil Balaji has been announced as DMK candidate from Coimbatore South while Ma Subramanian will contest from Saidapet.

“The opposition said that the DMK has not released its list of candidates and constituencies. We came at last, but we are latest,” said Stalin.

DMK to contest 164 seats, Congress 28

Announcing the seat sharing of the ruling alliance, Stalin said, “Out of 234 seats, DMK will contest on 164, Congress- 28, DMDK- 10, VCK- 08, CPI – 05, CPIM – 05, MDMK – 4, IUML- 2, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK)-2, Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi (MJK)-1, SDPI-1.”

Tamil Nadu will go to polls in a single phase on April 23, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4.
