Amid rumours about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s alleged affair with a female actor, his wife Sangeetha has withdrawn the divorce petition she had filed earlier this year.
On Friday, Sangeetha withdrew the petition before the Family Court in Chengalpattu near Chennai. She appeared before the court through video conferencing and told the judge that she did not want to continue with the case.
The court accepted her request and closed the case. Vijay’s lawyer did not object to the withdrawal. The court also said that Sangeetha can file a fresh divorce petition in the future if needed.
Why did Sangeetha file for divorce?
Sangeetha had filed the divorce petition in February. In the petition, she alleged that Vijay was in a relationship with a female actor. She claimed that she came to know about the alleged affair in 2021.
According to the petition, Vijay had promised to end the relationship but later continued it. She also claimed that he started keeping her away from his personal and public life.
What were the allegations?
Sangeetha said Vijay travelled abroad and attended public events with the female actor. She claimed that photos of them were widely shared on social media and that Vijay never denied the reports.
She also alleged that these incidents caused embarrassment to her and their two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha.
According to the petition, Vijay reduced the facilities available to her and placed financial restrictions on her, including limiting her freedom to travel.
Sangeetha claimed mental stress
In the divorce petition, Sangeetha said Vijay’s actions and the controversies on social media caused her mental stress and humiliation. She claimed that their marriage had broken down and existed only on paper.
However, on Friday, she informed the court that she no longer wanted to continue with the divorce case. The court accepted her request and officially closed the case.
