Tamil Nadu clinches Rs 7,020 crore investment haul during CM Stalin’s Germany visit

Berlin, GERMANY: In a significant diplomatic and economic achievement, Tamil Nadu has secured massive investment commitments totalling Rs 7,020 crore from 26 leading German companies during Chief Minister MK Stalin’s investment promotion visit to Germany. The agreements, signed at the ‘#TNRising Germany Investment Conclave’ and other high-level business meetings, are projected to generate over 15,300 new jobs across the state, significantly boosting its manufacturing, renewable energy, and technology sectors.

The investment drive saw participation from major global firms including rail systems giant Knorr-Bremse, which committed Rs 2,000 crore toward a new advanced manufacturing facility—marking its first major project in Tamil Nadu with an estimated 3,500 jobs. Wind energy leader Nordex pledged Rs 1,000 crore, expected to create 2,500 jobs, while ebm-papst, a specialist in energy-efficient systems, announced a Rs 201 crore expansion of its Global Capability Centre and manufacturing operations, adding 250 high-skill roles. Chief Minister Stalin also engaged in strategic talks with automotive icon BMW, encouraging deeper involvement in Tamil Nadu’s rapidly growing electric vehicle and auto component ecosystem.

CM Stalin Declares Tamil Nadu “India’s Germany,” Highlights Unmatched Growth

Chief Minister MK Stalin, in his keynote address to investors, positioned Tamil Nadu as India’s undisputed industrial and economic leader, drawing a direct comparison to Germany’s role in the European Union. “Tamil Nadu is India’s Germany,” he proclaimed, underscoring the state’s record as the only one in India to achieve double-digit growth in both overall economic output and manufacturing. He further highlighted Tamil Nadu’s status as the most urbanized state, home to the largest number of factories and industrial workers nationwide.

Stalin also emphasized Tamil Nadu’s cultural and historical depth, noting shared linguistic antiquity between Tamil and German and archaeological evidence of advanced iron usage in the region over five millennia ago. His vision for “Made in Tamil Nadu” to become a global hallmark of quality and innovation—akin to “Made in Germany”—resonated strongly among business leaders, as he invited them to leverage the state’s robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and business-friendly policies.

Major Boost for Green Energy, Tech, and Employment Landscape

The new investments are set to accelerate Tamil Nadu’s leadership in renewable energy and high-tech manufacturing. Nordex’s expansion will reinforce the state’s standing in wind power infrastructure, while Knorr-Bremse’s entry signals growing confidence in Tamil Nadu’s advanced engineering capabilities. The broadening of ebm-papst’s GCC highlights the state’s emergence as a hub for global R&D and precision manufacturing.

Beyond immediate economic gains, these developments are expected to create extensive forward and backward linkages in supply chains, enhance skill development, and support the state’s sustainable industrialization goals.
