Apart from these two airlines, Uttar Pradesh’s Shankha Air can also start flight operations in 2026. Shankha Air has already received its No Objection Certificate (NOC).

India is one of the fastest growing domestic civil aviation markets in the world. Currently, IndiGo and the Air India Group, comprising Air India and Air India Express airlines, together cover more than 90% of the domestic civil aviation market share. There are currently 9 operational domestic airlines in India, including one regional airline, Fly Big, which suspended scheduled flights in October.

“Our endeavor has been to encourage more airlines into Indian aviation, which is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world due to the policies of the Modi government,” Civil Aviation Minister Naidu said on X. He said schemes like UDAN have helped small carriers like Star Air, India One Air, Fly91 and others play an important role in regional connectivity within the country.
