Dolo 650: Consumption of Dolo 650 tablets in India has touched worrying levels. Indian-American doctor Cyrus Pounawalla recently tweeted and said, ‘Indian people are eating Dolo 650 like chocolate.’ Statistics show that 7.5 crore strips are being consumed every day in the country.
The trend started from the Corona period
Dolo 650 was widely used to treat common fever and body aches during the Corona pandemic. ‘Duro 650 was considered safe for fever during the Corona period but now people are taking it for every minor problem.’ Even after the pandemic ended, the use of this medicine did not decrease. In some cases, allegations of doctors promoting this medicine for financial gain have also come to light.
Easy availability without prescription
The biggest problem of Dolo 650 is its easy availability. This medicine is available in medical stores without doctor’s prescription. People take it for immediate relief from minor headache, fatigue or fever. ‘People forget that Dolo 650 is a brand of paracetamol and taking it in excess can be dangerous.’
Serious Side Effects of Dolo 650
Liver Damage: Taking Dolo in large amounts increases the risk of acute liver failure. Paracetamol is metabolized in the liver and overdose disrupts its function. Kidney problems: Long-term use may affect kidney function. Allergic Reaction: Some people may have allergies like skin rashes, itching or difficulty in breathing. Danger of hidden symptoms: This medicine can suppress the symptoms of serious diseases which may delay timely treatment. Stress and sleep disturbances: Excessive use may increase mental stress and sleep related problems.
Why is it dangerous without medical advice?
Dolo 650 contains paracetamol (650 mg) which is effective in fever and pain but its misuse can be fatal. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the safe daily dose of paracetamol for adults should not exceed 4,000 mg. Many people take Dolo with other medicines that already contain paracetamol, increasing the risk of overdose.
