semiconductor chip
Taiwan’s well-known chip manufacturing company MediaTek has said that it is ready to manufacture its chips in India as soon as the semiconductor manufacturing plants (Fab Units) become operational in India. According to the information, the company is completely positive about manufacturing in India.
MediaTek is one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies, which makes chips for smartphones, automobile systems and smart home devices. Its customers are the world’s leading mobile companies like Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo and Vivo. The company works on a fabless model, that is, it does not make chips in its own factory, but focuses on design and software development and gives the manufacturing work to companies like TSMC, Intel Foundry Services and GlobalFoundries.
Possibility of manufacturing in India
Anku Jain, Managing Director of MediaTek India, said, if consumption is in India and manufacturing is also in India, then it is beneficial for us. This is a wise step from business point of view and is also good for Make in India. This statement coincides with the big initiative of the Government of India, in which the target has been set to make the country a semiconductor manufacturing hub. For this, the government has announced an incentive package of $ 10 billion (about ₹ 83,000 crore), so that the world’s big chip companies can invest in India and a strong supply chain can be created in the country.
Semiconductor Mission of India
At present, India fulfills almost all its semiconductor needs through imports, while India is one of the largest electronic goods markets in the world. To change this situation, the government is working rapidly on setting up semiconductor fab plants. At present, work is going on on about 10 big projects under India’s Semiconductor Mission, which include chip design, manufacturing and testing facilities.
MediaTek trusts India
MediaTek already supplies chips to many mobile and electronics brands in India. If the company starts production in India itself, it will shorten the supply chain, reduce costs and avoid global disruptions. The company believes that India is not only a big consumption market but can also become a strong manufacturing and innovation center in the future, because the electronics industry here is continuously growing rapidly.
