Relentless rain and waterlogged conditions at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium tested the resilience of young footballers in the Oriental Cup 2026 on Day 2, with several schools achieving convincing victories despite challenging weather.
Tagore International School began the day with a 2-0 win over Sapphire International School, Noida, in the Boys’ category. Ayushman Sharma scored in the fourth and 29th minutes to secure Tagore International’s progression to the next round. In the Girls’ fixture, Sapphire International School defeated Tagore International School 2-0, with early goals from Dhanvi Chawla and Aadya Chawla in the sixth and 12th minutes, respectively.
St. Francis De Sales Senior Secondary School advanced in both Boys’ and Girls’ categories following walkovers against St. Mary’s School, Safdarjung Enclave. Step by Step School, Noida recorded a 4-0 victory against The Indian School in the Boys’ category. Chitman Singh scored twice in the ninth and 16th minutes, followed by goals from Yuvaan Krishna and Vansh Gulati in the 20th and 27th minutes. Step by Step School’s Girls’ team also moved forward after receiving a walkover.
The Air Force School, Subroto Park secured a 3-0 win over Father Agnel School, Noida, with Arnab Kashyap scoring a hat-trick in the fifth, 15th, and 25th minutes. DAV Public School, Faridabad defeated Maharaja Aggarsain Adarsh Public School 5-0, with Hitesh Solanki scoring in the third minute, Pawan Gupta adding a second-half goal, and Tarun Gaur completing a hat-trick.
The Oriental Cup 2026 continues on Thursday, with further matches as teams compete for advancement. The fourth edition, running from July 7 to July 16 at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, features over 1,500 student-athletes from more than 45 teams across Delhi-NCR. It offers a prize pool more than double that of previous years and a scholarship programme worth Rs 2.5 lakh for ten deserving student-athletes.
