Tabu is in the spotlight for more than one reason. Earlier today, a fearless Income Tax officer. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the film stars Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role, with Tabu playing a key character.
Now, the veteran actress has secured interim protection from the Delhi High Court against the unauthorized use of her name, image, voice and other aspects of her personality online.
The court’s order also covers the misuse of her identity through artificial intelligence, deepfakes, face morphing and other digital technologies. Justice Jyoti Singh passed an ex-parte ad-interim injunction while hearing a lawsuit filed by Tabu, who alleged that her identity and persona were being commercially exploited on the internet without her consent.
The court has directed several major digital platforms, including Google, Meta, X and Reddit, to remove or disable access to multiple URLs carrying allegedly unauthorised content involving the actress.
The interim order also restrains the defendants, including unidentified individuals referred to as John Does, from using or commercially exploiting Tabu’s personality and publicity rights without her permission.
At 54, Tabu continues to remain one of the most sought-after actresses in Indian cinema. Despite having worked across multiple languages and industries, including Hindi and Telugu cinema as well as Hollywood, she continues to take on prominent roles in films and web series.
