The numbers speak for themselves. Taapsee Pannu’s action thriller Gandhari continues its remarkable global run on Netflix, recording 18.9 million views in its first three weeks and maintaining a three-week streak in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for Non-English Movies. The film registered 5.9 million views in Week 1, 9.6 million views in Week 2 and 3.4 million views in Week 3, while continuing to trend in the Top 10 across 30 countries in its latest week.
With the film now entering its fourth week and continuing to hold strong on the global charts, Gandhari has emerged as one of the highest-viewed Indian Netflix Originals, with its sustained momentum putting it firmly in the conversation around the platform’s biggest Indian original successes. The film has also surpassed the three-week viewership of several major Indian direct-to-OTT Netflix releases, including Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, Jaane Jaan, Do Patti and Darlings.
Speaking about the scale of the film’s response, Taapsee Pannu says, “When I saw the film for the first time, I knew that this film has a very strong heart and the fact that that will definitely connect with the audience. But what was very, very surprising for me was how well it connected with the audience internationally.” Reflecting on the film’s distinctly Indian setting and its unexpected international trajectory, she adds, “We thought we have made a very, very Indian story film. Characters are very Indian, the story is from the heartland. So this international trajectory definitely was surprising.”
Speaking about taking on the action genre, she says, “An action thriller from what I have attempted before. So, I was like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’ I was ready to deep dive into the deep end of the pool.” With Taapsee portraying Bani, a mother on a relentless mission to find her kidnapped daughter, Gandhari combines high-intensity action with an emotionally rooted story, marking another ambitious female-led role in her filmography.
Taapsee further recalls witnessing Gandhari connect with audiences across territories including South America, Europe, Mexico, Canada and South Korea, saying, “There’s not even a lot of Indian diaspora living in those countries. So it was very, very heartwarming to see that the people of those countries are connecting with the story.”
The film’s latest global standing comes as Gandhari continues its fourth-week momentum, strengthening its position among Netflix’s most-viewed Indian Originals and building towards an even larger streaming milestone. Directed by Devashish Makhija and written and produced by Kanika Dhillon, the film also stars Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Jatin Sarna, and is streaming exclusively on Netflix.
