After the release of the film, Taapsee participated in Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast. Here he mentioned the difficulties of his early days in the South film industry. She told that during the shooting of songs she was often asked to wear a ‘padded bra’. This demand did not come directly from the director, but came through a chain. The director would tell the assistant director, she would tell this to the stylist and then the stylist would tell this to the actress.

Taapsee told that the team felt that to show ‘fantasy’ in the songs, it was necessary to show certain parts of the body in a special way. He also revealed that this was no secret on the set. The male crew members on the set used to stare to see whether the actress was wearing a padded bra or not. Taapsee said, “It was very embarrassing and awkward for me.” If an actress did not wear a padded bra, the director would send her back and ask her to wear one. Taapsee said angrily that it is not just a matter of clothes, but the mentality of viewing and controlling women’s body as an object.

Such bad experiences with female actresses on film sets is not a new thing. Earlier, Neena Gupta had told that during the song ‘Choli Ke Peeche’ from the film ‘Khalnayak’, Subhash Ghai had demanded her to wear a padded bra, due to which she got angry. Radhika Apte has also talked about the pressure regarding body shape in the South industry. Such issues have come to the fore after the Me Too movement, but even today the trend of showing women sexually in the name of item songs continues in regional cinema.
Taapsee’s supporters say that she is trying to bring change by raising her voice on such issues. The message of his film ‘Assi’ is also the same. The film states that “a rape case is registered every 80 minutes and society should not ignore it.” The film also raises questions on the shortcomings of our justice system by showing the pain of a survivor as close to reality as possible.
