T20 World Cup 2026 has started in India and Sri Lanka but still no solution has been found to the biggest dispute. All eyes are on whether the Pakistani team, which is playing its first match of the tournament, will take the field for the match against India on February 15 or not. Pakistan has created a controversy ever since it announced boycott of the match against India, efforts are on to resolve it. Now it is being told that an important meeting of ICC and Pakistan Cricket Board is going to be held in this matter on Sunday 8th February, in which a decision can be taken.
Will Pakistan lay down its arms today?
According to reports, there will be a discussion between ICC and PCB officials on Sunday to resolve this issue. Since only one week is left in this most important match of the tournament, efforts are on to resolve it as soon as possible. In such a situation, there is a possibility that a solution will be found on Sunday itself or a final decision will be taken on this issue. This meeting is taking place after the discussion between ICC-PCB that started in the last few hours.
The Pakistan government had announced just a few days before the start of the World Cup that their team would participate in the tournament but would boycott the match against India in Colombo on 15 February. This one decision had created a complete uproar, after which efforts are on to resolve this matter. In this connection, ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta was present in Colombo during the first match of the tournament on Saturday, 7 February, where the teams of Pakistan and Netherlands were face to face.
Attitudes softened after ICC warning
Only after this, some reports had come out that Pakistan Board had informed ICC about boycotting the match against India citing ‘Force Majeure’ rule (breaking the agreement under compulsion). In response, ICC had raised questions on PCB making this rule a basis for boycott and warned of possible action against it. Due to ICC’s warning, the Pakistani board’s attitude seemed to soften and it contacted the apex body with a request to start discussions to find a middle path. Since then talks have been going on continuously and now this meeting will take place.
