Chepauk Stadium (MA Chidambaram Stadium) in Chennai is ready to host the Indian team for the first time in the T20 World Cup 2026. Team India is going to face Zimbabwe on this ground in its second match of Super-8 round on Thursday 26th February. Till now, only matches between teams like New Zealand, Afghanistan, America were held in Chepauk, but now the Indian team will take the field and that too in a match which can decide the future of Team India in this tournament. In such a situation, there should not be any shortage or problem and for this, a special thing brought from America is being used, which can have a big impact on the match.
from 7 pm on Thursday India and Zimbabwe This match of Group-1 will be played in the Super-8 round between. The result of this match will decide which of the two teams will remain in the race for the semi-finals. In such a situation, every small and big thing is being taken care of in the field and one of the most important aspects in this is dew. Dew often has a major impact on the Chepauk ground in the evening, which sometimes plays a big role in changing the course of the match. Special preparations have been made to reduce this effect.
American ‘medicine’ to deal with dew
According to a report in the Indian Express, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), which runs the stadium, has imported a special chemical from America, which makes the dew disappear. This chemical is ‘Dew Cure’, which has been sprayed on this field. Due to the rising temperature in Chennai, dew appears on the grass of the field in the evening, due to which the ball remains continuously wet and the advantage of this often goes to the team batting in the second innings. In such a situation, the toss also becomes important in the match. But in the absence of dew on the field, there is equal competition in both the innings.
To maintain this balance, TNCA had taken this decision, under which this chemical was procured while renovating the stadium before the World Cup. It has been told in the report that before the India-Zimbabwe match, the ground staff had mixed this chemical with water and sprayed it for two consecutive days. Similarly, spraying will be done once on Thursday afternoon also. This chemical dries up the dew that comes on the grass in the evening and the ground does not remain wet. It has been told in the report that Team India had tested it a day before the match and they seemed satisfied.
Spinners will benefit
The effect of dew can be huge in the India-Zimbabwe match because both the teams can be seen using spinners more. Now if there is dew on the field then the ball keeps getting wet, due to which the spinners have to face problems while bowling in the second innings. But in the absence of dew, the spinners will prove to be more effective and in such a situation no one team will be able to get a one-sided advantage. Now whether this effort is beneficial or harmful for Team India, it will be known only in the match.
