T20 World Cup: Pakistan planning to wear black armbands to protest Bangladesh’s removal – Report

New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board is reportedly set to write a second letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), conveying its plans to protest the cricket body’s decision to expel Bangladesh from the upcoming T20 World Cup.

PCB was the only cricket board to support Bangladesh’s demands to change its cricket team’s venue from India to Sri Lanka due to security issues, and had written a letter to the ICC on the eve of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) deadline to confirm its World Cup availiabilty.

But as per the decision of the ICC board, which voted against BCB’s unreasonable demand, Bangladesh were booted out and replaced by Scotland at the marquee event.

In continuation of its support, PCB is set to write another letter to ICC, expressing its displeasure over the global body’s handling of the issue.

PCB set to write a second letter to ICC

As per a report in Telecom Asia Sport, the PCB is planning to officially convey its disappointment to the ICC and inform its intention to stage a protest during the T20 WC 2026, which begins on February 7.

“Pakistan Cricket Board is also due to write a letter to the ICC about the protest during the World Cup,” sources told Telecom Asia Sport.

If permitted, Pakistan players will wear black armbands during the World Cup as a mark of protest against the ICC’s decision.

PCB’s first letter was copied to all other board members. Written in support of Bangladesh, PCB, through the letter, backed BCB’s claims of security concerns in India and also offered to host their matches in Pakistan.

The latest development comes amidst uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup. Despite all their matches being scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, PCB awaits a final call from the Pakistan government on whether the team will participate in the mega-event.
