T20 World Cup 2026: New Zealand qualify for semifinal after Sri Lanka eliminate Pakistan

New Delhi: New Zealand qualified for the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026 after Pakistan failed restrict Sri Lanka on 147 runs in their Super 8 match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, February 28. The Kiwis suffered a 4-wicket defeat against England and stayed on three points with a net run-rate of +1.390.

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first, and they set a 213-run target. Salman Agha and Co. needed to restrict the co-hosts on 147 to overtake New Zealand on net run-rate and qualify for the semifinal, but failed to do so. The first semifinal will now be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and the final will be played in Ahmedabad.
