T20 World Cup 2026: Abhishek Sharma roars back to form with 26-ball fifty after multiple failures

New Delhi: Team India opener Abhishek Sharma smashed a blistering half-century in their Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, February 26. The world No.1 batter completed his half-century in 26 balls, hitting three boundaries and four maximums.

He has endured a lean patch in the ongoing tournament, but returned to form in India’s must-win clash. He registered three back-to-back ducks in the T20 World Cup 2026. Abhishek began his campaign with a golden duck against the USA, and missed India’s match against Namibia due to a stomach infection.

He then failed to get off the mark in the next two games against Pakistan and the Netherlands. On each occasion, he fell within the opening two overs while trying to play attacking shots before settling in. Abhishek scored 15 runs in India’s first Super 8 clash against South Africa, but looked completely out-of-touch as the Men in Blue suffered a 76-run defeat in Ahmedabad.

In the clash against Zimbabwe, Abhishek didn’t look in a hurry and was a bit watchful at the start. He then took on the Zimbabwe bowlers and played good shots with excellent timing and placement. Abhishek was removed by Tinotenda Maposa for 55 runs in the 13th over. The opener miscued a slower ball to the long-on fielder, and Sikandar took a good catch.
