Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the ₹8,300 crore ‘Clean Air, Healthy Delhi’ programme. In this seven-year plan, there will be special emphasis on EV, plantation, Yamuna revitalization and pollution control.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the ‘Clean Air, Healthy Delhi’ (Delhi Clean Air Program) orientation workshop organized by the World Bank and the Environment Department of the Delhi Government. On this occasion, he said that the government is working on a comprehensive and time bound strategy to make the capital pollution free. This program will simultaneously implement several major steps to improve the air quality in Delhi for the coming seven years.

Delhi’s air will change with ₹8,300 crore project

The Chief Minister said that the ‘Clean Air, Healthy Delhi’ program launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a seven-year mission with a cost of about ₹8,300 crore. World Bank will provide 65 percent financial support in this project, while 35 percent amount will be provided by Delhi Government.

He said that through this project the air quality monitoring system in the capital will be modernized. Besides, special emphasis will be laid on technology-based monitoring, strict adherence to pollution rules, better coordination between various departments and completion of works within the stipulated time frame.

Government’s new strategy to control Delhi pollution

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi government is not limited to just announcing schemes, but is working simultaneously on many fronts to reduce pollution. The government’s new strategy includes promoting electric vehicles, making public transport more eco-friendly and expanding green cover. He said that clean air is not only an environmental issue but also an issue related to the health of crores of people and the future of the coming generations. Therefore, all departments will have to work together to make this campaign successful.

Special focus will be on new EV policy and electric buses

Under the scheme of Delhi Government, the new EV Policy will be implemented effectively. Along with this, the number of electric buses will be increased in the capital, so that the dependence on traditional vehicles that cause pollution can be reduced. The government will also work rapidly towards setting up 32,000 electric vehicle charging points across the city. This will promote the use of electric vehicles and strengthen the clean transportation system.

There will be strict control on dust, garbage burning and Yamuna pollution

Under the programme, there will be effective control on dust blowing from construction sites, strict action on incidents of open burning of garbage and continuous monitoring of pollution sources. Apart from this, Delhi government will run 70 lakh tree plantation campaign, which will increase the green area and improve the air quality. Besides, the Yamuna Rejuvenation campaign will also be carried forward at a fast pace, so that the environment of the capital can be improved overall.

Modern technology will be implemented with the help of World Bank

The World Bank will cooperate in this program at both technical and financial levels. With the help of modern technology, identification of sources of pollution, real-time air quality monitoring, data based decisions and effective action will be ensured. This will increase both transparency and speed in policy formulation and its implementation.

These leaders and officials were present in the ‘Clean Air, Healthy Delhi’ orientation workshop.

Delhi Government Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood and Manjinder Singh Sirsa were also present in the program. Acting Country Director of the World Bank, Paul Prosi also participated in the program and reiterated his commitment to achieve the goal of clean air with the Delhi Government.

Experts believe that air pollution in Delhi has been a major challenge for a long time. Especially during the winter season, AQI reaches the serious category.
