Suzuki’s Wagon R Surpasses 1 Crore Unit Global Sales Milestone, Nearly 2 Lakh Vehicles Sold In India In FY2025

Wagon R Sales: The Wagon R, which Suzuki Motor Corporation launched as a global product in 1993, has crossed the cumulative worldwide sales of 10 million units (1 crore) in June 2025. It took about 31 years and 9 months to reach the landmark.

The Wagon R, which reflects Suzuki’s expertise in making easy-to-use cars that put riders first, was developed as a semi-bonnet style mini wagon and first sold in the Japanese market. Following this, production began in India, Hungary, Indonesia, and other regions of the world. Suzuki has developed the technologies that have been honed as per the standards for mini cars around the world in the form of the Wagon R series, the company noted.

The last model, the Wagon R Smile, was launched as a derivative of the Wagon R in Japan. It features a 657cc, three-cylinder, mild-hybrid petrol engine with a CVT. The engine makes 48.3 bhp and 58 Nm of torque.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R: India’s Best-seller for Four Straight Years

As far as the Indian market is concerned, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has secured its position as India’s highest-selling car for the last 4 consecutive financial years. In FY2025 alone, over 1.98 lakh units of the Wagon R were sold in the country, beating the Tata Punch (more than 1.96 lakh units). Much of that credit goes to the car being spacious, feature-packed, and fuel-efficient.

The India-spec Wagon R gets two petrol engines – 1.0-litre with 55.92 bhp/92.1 Nm and 1.2-litre petrol with 88.5 bhp and 113 Nm – as well as a petrol-CNG option. Both engines are offered with either a 5-speed manual or an automatic transmission. Maruti Suzuki also offers a factory-fitted CNG option that makes 56 bhp and 82.1 Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The model starts at Rs 5.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
