Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, has launched a fierce attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) following the party’s widespread protests against the ‘SIR’ (Special Integrated Reporting) protocol and the public threats issued by its leaders and ministers to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across the state.
Speaking at a public meeting in Sodepur on Wednesday, Adhikari delivered a strong warning to the ruling party.
Suvendu Adhikari clearly stated in his address that if the state’s ruling party obstructs the ‘SIR’ process and prevents peaceful elections from taking place, President’s Rule may be imposed in the state. He alleged that TMC leaders are directly intimidating BLOs, which he described as an anti-democratic practice. “If fair elections are not held here following the directions of the central agencies and the Election Commission, action will be taken according to the Constitution. If the work related to SIR is not allowed, the central forces will take charge. President’s Rule will be imposed in Bengal,” Adhikari declared.
Commenting on the protests by TMC ministers and leaders, Suvendu claimed that their sole intention is to derail the electoral process. He asserted that the TMC is now afraid to face the elections and is therefore trying to pressure the guidelines and personnel of the Central Election Commission. From the Sodepur rally, Suvendu Adhikari called upon his party workers to unite against the TMC’s ‘politics of intimidation’. His comments have injected a fresh wave of tension into the state’s political arena.
