Suti police seize 34.5 kg ganja in Jangipur, 3 arrested for smuggling

New Delhi: On Saturday, Suti police station, under Jangipur district, set up a trap to catch the smugglers after receiving a tip that ganja was being smuggled in a red car.

Around 4:30 pm, near Chandmor beside Sai Hotel in Jangipur, a naka checking operation was underway on the road toward Behrampore. The red car was expected to pass through this route any time.

When the car arrived at the check post, the police stopped it and searched thoroughly. At first, nothing was found. But due to the credibility of the source, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Shahjahan and his team conducted a detailed search of the car, and they found out around 34.5 kilograms of ganja hidden under the trunk.

The police successfully failed the smugglers’ operation, arresting three accused: Bapan Sarkar, Prem Shankar Poddar, and Debu Biswas.

Recent successful ganja seizures

Bengaluru Police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested 25-year-old civil engineer Jijo Prasad for allegedly selling hydro ganja, a potent and expensive form of marijuana, to IT professionals in the city. The police seized 3.5 kg of hydro ganja, valued at around ₹4 crore, along with ₹36 lakh in cash from his possession. Officials said Prasad was caught by the Anti-Narcotics Wing while waiting to deliver a parcel in a vacant plot near Veer Sandra, close to Electronic City. Acting on a tip-off, the police detained him and found the drugs packed in airtight plastic covers, likely to avoid detection.

Other news is from Kerela, where police recovered 1.2 kg of ganja and 5 grams of MDMA from a puja room in a house in Thalassery, Kannur district during a raid on Sunday. The house belongs to a man named Renil. Authorities said Renil managed to escape before the raid. This came just three days after the police had visited the house following a tip-off. However, the police succeeded in seizing the drugs during the second attempt on Sunday.
