New Delhi: A disturbing case of murder has come to light in Karnataka, where a man allegedly killed his wife after assaulting her in public and running a vehicle over her.
According to police officials, the accused, identified as Akshay, was travelling with his wife Shaila, aged 28, to Ganagapura, a well-known pilgrimage site, on Thursday morning. The couple was in a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga when the incident took place.
Argument turns violent on roadside
Around 11 am, near Ballurga village, the couple reportedly had an argument. During the dispute, Akshay pushed Shaila out of the vehicle. A video recorded by a passerby shows him grabbing her by the hair and thrashing her on the roadside while she cries for help.
People passing by stopped and intervened. They helped Shaila get back into the vehicle and tried to calm the situation.
Attack escalates into murder
A few minutes later, Akshay drove towards a nearby field. He again forced his wife out of the SUV. In a shocking turn of events, he then drove the vehicle over her. This act was also captured on camera.
Police said the woman died due to the injuries caused by the attack.
Police investigation and motive
Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu said the couple had been married for four years and were originally from Baramati in Maharashtra.
Preliminary findings suggest that Akshay suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair, which may have led to the crime.
“We are probing this and all other angles. The husband has been taken into custody,” said an official.
Police have registered a case and are continuing the investigation.
