Suryakumar Yadav reveals his captaincy mantra, dismisses performance concerns ahead of T20 WC finale

New Delhi: Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav revealed his captaincy mantra and also rubbished all the concerns regarding performance of the players on the eve of the T20 World Cup final. India and New Zealand lock horns in the finale of the global ICC event at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8, which will also mark the end of the one-month event.

Addressing the press conference, Suraykumar said that a good team culture and happy atmosphere are the keys to success in any big event. Shedding light on his captaincy mantra, the skipper said that: ‘I feel a good team culture and a happy team atmosphere are the key. If you want players to be clear in the ground, keeping them happy and allowing them to speak and listening to their ideas off the field is important.’

He further said that ‘Captain and leader is just a position. You need to speak to all the players and ask them how they want the team to be run. It’s basically about driving the car together.’

Addressing concerns regarding the current form of spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who has been going through a tough phase, the skipper said that he is one of the best bowlers in the world and I am sure he will get back to his usual. He further said that cricket is a team game and it is not necessary that all the players pitch in well at the same time.

Samson got what he deserved

Speaking about Sanju Samson, he said that the batter has been doing well lately and has got what he deserved. He further said that he has learnt a lot from experienced veterans like Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir and their learnings play a critical role in how he functions as a skipper. When asked about the kind of pitch the team would like to play on, he said that any pitch will work for them as they just want to concentrate on their goal.
