New Delhi: India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has reflected on his poor form and said that he was missing as a batter in the five-match series against South Africa. Surya has suffered another failure with the bat in Ahmedabad as he was dismissed for five runs off seven balls, and he only managed to score just 34 runs in four matches.
He ended the year without a half-century to his name, which has never happened in his T20I career. The India captain only managed to score just 218 runs from 21 matches, with a strike-rate of 123.16. His form is a massive concern for the Men in Blue, but Suryakumar has reassured the fans that he will come back stronger.
“Maybe the only thing we couldn’t quite manage was finding Surya the batter, I think he went missing somewhere! (smiles) But he’ll be back stronger,” said Suryakumar.
He further added that he’s really happy for the team, as whenever they were in trouble, someone always put their hand up and pulled them through, and it was very satisfying for the captain with the way this series went.
‘We wanted that relentless intent, and it worked beautifully tonight’
India batted aggressively from the start as Sanju Samson’s return in the top order worked out well. He and Abhishek Sharma set the platform for the side, which was followed by explosive batting from Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma as the Men in Blue posted 231 runs and secured the win by 30 runs.
The Indian T20I captain said that the attacking brand of cricket was missing in the last few series, and he was happy to see it return in the last match of the series.
“This is something we felt was missing in our last few series. This is exactly how we wanted to bat. Once someone gets going, they don’t stop. We wanted that relentless intent, and tonight it worked beautifully,” he added.
Suryakumar now has a chance to redeem himself during the T20I series against New Zealand, which will begin on January 21, 2026.
