solar eclipse 2026

Surya Grahan 2026: Solar and lunar eclipses are considered very important in Sanatan Dharma. In February 2026, once again a special astronomical event is going to be seen in the sky. The first solar eclipse of the year is going to occur on 17 February. The eclipse of the Sun will take place in Aquarius. At the time of the eclipse, Sun God will be transiting in Aquarius, hence from astrological point of view this solar eclipse is considered very special. A solar eclipse occurs when the Sun and the Moon come into line and the Moon partially covers the Sun.

As much as astronomy considers this event important, it is equally considered special from astrological point of view. It is being said that the first solar eclipse of the year will not be visible in India. In such a situation, a question arises in the minds of people that even if the eclipse is not visible, is it considered as Sutak period? So, let us know whether the Sutak period of solar eclipse will be considered in India or not.

How long will the solar eclipse last?

Solar eclipse always occurs on Amavasya date only. According to Indian time, this solar eclipse will start at 3:26 pm on February 17. The effect of this eclipse will last for about 4 hours 32 minutes, but this solar eclipse will not be visible in India.

Sutak period will not be valid in India

According to the scriptures, the Sutak period of solar eclipse starts 12 hours before the eclipse, however, the Sutak period of the eclipse which is not visible i.e. is not visible is also not valid. In such a situation, the Sutak period of this first solar eclipse of the year is not going to be valid in India.
