There are many stories about Lord Surya. One such story is of Lord Shiva and Sun God. Sun God had become a victim of Lord Shiva’s anger. Because of this, darkness had spread throughout the world. Let us know this interesting story.
According to Brahma Vaivarta Purana…
According to Brahma Vaivarta Purana, there were two demons, whose names were Mali and Sumali. These two demons had insulted the Sun God, due to which both of them were suffering severe physical pain. Both of them were not able to free themselves from this pain. Due to severe pain, both of them decided to go to Lord Shiva. After this both the demons reached Lord Bholenath and narrated their plight.
Lord Shiva got angry after hearing the plight of both of them. In anger he attacked the Sun God with a trident. Due to the attack of Lord Shiva, Sun God fell down from his chariot. As soon as Lord Surya fell down from his chariot, the entire world became dark. When Rishi Kashyap, father of Sun God, came to know about this, he cursed Lord Shiva to make his son unhappy. Later, due to this curse, Lord Shiva beheaded Lord Ganesha.
Lord Shiva gave life to Sun God
When Bholenath saw darkness in the world, his anger subsided. After this Lord Shiva gave life to Sun God. After which Surya Dev again boarded his chariot. On the other hand, Lord Brahma told Mali and Sumali the importance of worshiping the Sun God, after which they worshiped the Sun and became free from physical pain.
