A Chinese woman completed 2400 km trekking, unaware of her pregnancy. On reaching the hospital after the car accident, it was found that she was 9 months pregnant and within a few hours she gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
Sometimes life brings us to such a point where we feel nothing but surprise. Something similar happened with a Chinese woman ‘Dong’. Dong completed a long trek of 1,500 miles (about 2,400 kilometers). After this, when she felt tired and cold, she left for the hospital. But his car met with an accident on the way. When she reached the hospital, the doctors told her that she was pregnant. What’s more, within a few hours she gave birth to a healthy baby weighing two and a half kilos. The biggest surprise is that Dong herself did not know that she was pregnant.
139 days, 2,400 kilometer journey
Walking 1,500 miles from China’s northern city of Hami to Luoyang in Henan province is no joke. On this route one has to face high mountains, scorching desert and icy winds. Facing all these challenges, Dong and her husband completed this difficult trekking in 139 days. Upon reaching home, Dong felt a little cold, so he decided to immediately go to the hospital.
Car accident, hospital and then delivery!
Just before reaching the hospital, Dong’s car met with an accident. It was lucky that he did not suffer any major injuries because of the airbags. But the real shock came to him in the hospital. After examination, the doctors told that she is 9 months pregnant and the time of delivery is very near. Hearing this, Dong could not believe it. Within a few hours of being admitted to the hospital, she gave birth to a healthy boy. Dong says that during this long journey, neither she nor her husband had the slightest idea of pregnancy.
What is ‘Cryptic Pregnancy’?
This condition of Dong is called ‘Cryptic Pregnancy’ i.e. ‘secret pregnancy’ in medical language. In this, the woman comes to know that she is pregnant only till the last stage of delivery or sometimes during delivery itself. This often happens in women who have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In this condition, due to hormonal imbalance and irregular periods, pregnancy symptoms are not clearly visible. According to doctors, Dong also did not have any symptoms like vomiting or fatigue (morning sickness) during pregnancy. He thought that his weight was increasing due to change in lifestyle and eating habits.
‘Lucky Baby’
The child was born a month ahead of schedule, but both mother and child are completely healthy. Dong’s husband expressed happiness and said that he never thought that he would become a father so soon. Both of them have named their son, who was born healthy after surviving difficulties like long journey and car accident, ‘Lucky Baby’.
