Actress Sumona Chakravarti has shared a deeply personal reflection on life, death and the importance of making the most of the time in between after attending a funeral.
In a recent Instagram post, Sumona said the experience prompted her to think about how people live the chapters of their lives before reaching their final one. She revealed that she attended a funeral the previous day and, unlike her usual involvement in the rituals and responsibilities, chose to simply stand back and observe.
“Life is fucking short. You may not even wake up tomorrow. Or you may lose someone you love to death. Birth & death = Life. Live it,” she wrote.
Describing the experience, Sumona said she spent nearly two hours watching the final rituals, including the fire, smoke and sky around her.
“For almost two hours, I stood there and observed the last chapter of a life. And the strangest part? This is the last chapter every single one of us will reach. It really makes you think about what we’re doing with the chapters before it,” she wrote.
The actress also shared a video of herself spending time by the sea. The video carried a message encouraging people to travel, enjoy food and spend time in the sun rather than becoming overly focused on material achievements or appearance.
Sumona, known for her work on The Kapil Sharma Show, had earlier spoken about her own health and recovery journey in July.
She revealed that she underwent surgery on May 4 for the excision of endometriosis, which she said had progressed significantly despite years of efforts to manage the condition. After taking time away from social media, she said she had spent two months focusing on her physical and mental recovery.
“Happy to resurface after a long time. I’ve been living under a rock for the last two months. I consciously stayed away from social media (for the majority of it atleast). On 4th May, I underwent surgery for the excision of my endometriosis, which had unfortunately progressed massively despite me trying to manage it for years. I guess it was finally time for me to say goodbye to it,” she wrote.
She said the experience had brought about a major shift in her perspective towards life and expressed gratitude to her doctor and medical team for supporting her through the recovery.
