Mumbai: Television actress Sumona Chakravarti recently opened up about her Durga Pujo celebrations, six months after undergoing surgery.
She shared her experience, noting a significant change in her physical state and energy levels, yet finding immense peace and spiritual connection during the festivities.
Taking to Instagram, Sumona posted several glimpses from her Pujo, reflecting on the challenges and joys. “Pujo shesh. I managed it,” she wrote, acknowledging an extra day of celebrations this year. “Almost 6 months post operation. Body is not what it used to be. It looks different. It feels different. Managed on 50% capacity in comparison to my usual Pujo enthusiasm & energy.” Despite this, she found a deeper connection: “I spent more quality time with Maa Durga this time. I felt so much at ease, calmer in life, peaceful.”
She detailed her festive wardrobe, including a borrowed saree for Shosti and a repeated Dhakai Jamdani for Saptami, emphasizing her love for re-wearing clothes, especially sarees. For Ashtami, she donned a handwoven silk saree gifted by a senior actress, describing its weightless comfort. Sumona also recalled a Baluchari saree she purchased in Bishnupur, West Bengal, during a travel show shoot in 2022, which her mother wore for Kali Pujo and she borrowed this year.
A poignant moment was her unexpected participation in the dhunuchi dance. Despite feeling low on energy and not planning to dance, she felt compelled when an earthen pot was handed to her during the aarti. “It almost felt like Maa had called me,” she shared, highlighting the spiritual significance of the dance as her ‘sadhana’ and a way to express devotion.
