The Himachal government has managed to appoint water guards who have completed 12 years or more by December 31, 2024 as pump attendants. This decision has been taken on the second day in the meeting of Sukhu Cabinet.

Now these employees will be able to avail the salary and allowances fixed by the Himachal government. It should be known that at present 6 thousand water protection services are providing in Himachal- who get an honorarium of Rs 5400. 60 per cent of these water guards are paying water power department and 40 per cent of the Panchayat.
Demand to eliminate quota
However, water guards are demanding to eliminate these quota. Water guard is demanding to subdue themselves under the Department of Water Power. Water guards say the term of tenure of water guards should be reduced. Water guards have had to wait for 12 years for promotion.
Important role played during disaster
At present, Himachal Pradesh is struggling with horrific monsoon disasters, due to which the state has lost more than Rs 1382 crore so far. The water power department alone has lost about Rs 488 crore. Hundreds of drinking water schemes of the state have been affected due to floods and landslides. Of which 221 schemes are still disrupted. The situation in the district mandi is the most serious where 65 drinking water schemes have come to a standstill.
