In Unnao, a 19-year-old youth posted a video of suicide on Instagram. Due to meta alert, UP Police reached within 16 minutes and saved the life of the youth. So far, 1460 lives have been saved through such alerts.
In Bihar police station area of Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, a 19-year-old youth tried to hang himself by making a noose of a scarf in the ceiling fan and posted his video on Instagram. This matter came to light around 8:35 pm on October 13, 2025, when Meta Company (parent company of Instagram) sent an alert in this regard to the Social Media Center of Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters through email.
Police became active as soon as alert was received from Meta.
Director General of Police (DGP) Shri Rajiv Krishna was informed immediately after receiving the alert from Meta Company. He immediately issued instructions to take immediate action on this matter. The social media center of the headquarters found out the location of the youth on the basis of the mobile number given in the alert and immediately informed the Unnao police.
Police reached the young man’s house in just 16 minutes
As soon as the information was received, the sub-inspector of Bihar police station along with his team reached the youth’s house in just 16 minutes. When the policemen reached the youth’s room, they saw that the youth was trying to hang himself by tying a scarf to the fan. Due to the low ceiling of the house, he could not hang himself completely, but he was trying to tighten the noose around his neck.
Police saved the young man’s life in time
The police personnel immediately removed the noose of the dupatta from the neck of the young man and brought him down. After some time, when the young man became normal, he was interrogated. He told that he was in love with a girl, but the girl had stopped talking to him, due to which he went into depression. Due to this mental stress he tried to commit suicide.
Young man’s mind changed due to police counseling
The local police talked to the youth and counseled him and advised him not to take such steps in future. The young man assured that he would not make such a mistake again. The family thanked the Uttar Pradesh Police for arriving on time and saving the son’s life.
1460 lives saved through social media alerts
A special coordination arrangement is going on between Uttar Pradesh Police and Meta Company from 2022. Under this, if a person posts a post related to suicide on Facebook or Instagram, Meta Company immediately sends an alert to Uttar Pradesh Police through email and phone.
By acting on alerts received in such cases between January 1, 2023 and October 10, 2025, the police has so far saved the lives of 1460 people. This system is an example of police vigilance, technical efficiency and human sensitivity.
Confidence increased through technology and promptness
This entire incident shows how social media monitoring systems and quick police response can prove to be life-saving. This incident in Unnao once again shows that Uttar Pradesh Police is capable and committed to saving lives in time through cyber alerts.
