Suhail Nayyar Says Pressure and Chaos Enhance His Acting Ahead of ‘Udta Teer’ Release

Actor Suhail Nayyar, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Udta Teer’, has opened up about how pressure and chaos help shape his craft, saying he performs well under challenging circumstances.

Speaking to IANS in Mumbai’s Andheri West area during the promotions of his upcoming film and other projects, Nayyar explained how difficult situations influence his acting.

Asked how chaos and pressure shape him as an artiste, the actor said, “Both enhance my acting. I get help even in chaos, and I work very well under pressure”.

Emphasising the importance of staying focused, Nayyar said an actor’s responsibility is to deliver a performance that connects with the audience, regardless of what may be happening in their personal life.

“The main thing is you have to focus on yourself. A person who will see me in a film doesn’t know what’s happening in my life. My job is to give them that end product which makes them feel. Everything stops, you concentrate, and you calm down. Everything happens but your higher purpose doesn’t matter,” he told IANS.

In an earlier interaction, the actor had spoken about approaching his work objectively and recognising that an actor has limited control over the final outcome of a performance.

Explaining how he developed a sense of detachment, Nayyar said the nature of screen acting requires performers to accept that many decisions lie beyond their control, including which takes are selected by the editor and whether particular scenes make it into the final cut.

“You get to know while doing it because in screen acting, you don’t have a lot in your hands. What take will be selected by the editor, if your best acting is not selected, if it is cut, you never know, and you are not in control of that. You can’t be attached to the result. You can be attached to the character But attachment to the result is not a healthy thing,” he had said.

Nayyar also explained how the collaborative nature of filmmaking has shaped his outlook, noting that the impact of a performance often depends on contributions from several people and elements beyond an actor’s immediate control.

“Sometimes, I have seen in my performances that there was a slow-mo shot, a certain background music, and that makes the performance good. But I didn’t walk in slow-mo, I wasn’t imagining the rhythm, it just happened. A lot of people contributed to it. When you think like this, you start getting detached,” he said.

Clarifying that detachment does not mean indifference towards his work, he added that maintaining emotional balance helps him deal with both success and disappointment.

“It’s not like I don’t care. Whatever it is, you learn, I think it’s the right way. You don’t go crazy in happiness, You don’t go crazy when things don’t go your way. You keep going,” the actor said.

Talking about ‘Udta Teer’, the film reportedly blends patriotism with comedy, with Nayyar playing a negative character.
