A woman passenger traveling from Varanasi to Deoghar alleged that she developed severe allergy after eating food served in the train, while her two-year-old son developed diarrhoea.

The pictures and medical reports shared on social media have given rise to this matter. This incident has once again raised questions on the cleanliness and safety of food served in trains.

What happened during the train journey?

The woman told that she was going from Varanasi to Deoghar by train number 22500 Vande Bharat Express on March 27 and was traveling in coach E1. He told that as soon as he ate the lunch served in the train, within a short time his lips became swollen and symptoms of allergy started appearing in his body. He shared pictures of his condition on social media platform X, in which his lips appeared quite swollen. Also shared the doctor’s prescription, which mentioned the treatment. The woman says that if timely treatment was not provided, the condition could have worsened.

Did the child’s condition also deteriorate?

The woman also claimed that her two-year-old son, who was traveling with her, also fell ill after eating this food. The child started complaining of diarrhea during the journey, due to which he became very upset. The woman told that she went to the hospital and got treatment within 24 hours, due to which the condition of both of them improved. Apart from this, he also raised questions on the drinking water served in the train and said that its taste was unusual. This entire incident has further increased the concern about the safety of passengers and the quality of food.

What does IRCTC’s answer say?

Giving clarification on this entire matter, IRCTC said that the food served that day was tested and it was found to be completely satisfactory. IRCTC wrote on X that no complaint was received from any other passenger on the same day regarding the quality of food. However, the woman did not seem satisfied with this answer and said that even though no one else fell ill, she and her son were affected. Later, IRCTC asked for complete information from him through direct message and assured of investigation. With many such cases coming to light in recent months, questions on the food quality of Railways are increasing.
