Aidan McMillan, a 12-year-old student from Dallas, has built a nuclear fusion machine. He started work on it at the age of 8 and is now aiming for the Guinness World Record for being the youngest to do it.
Dallas: A 12 year old boy has surprised the world by making a nuclear fusion machine. American media NBC News has reported that Aidan McMillan, a seventh grade student from the Independent School District of Dallas, has accomplished this feat. It has also been said in the news that Aidan McMillan is now trying to make a Guinness World Record as the youngest person to make a nuclear fusion machine.
Nuclear fusion machine made by 12 year old boy
The things that are coming to light related to this 12 year old boy making a nuclear fusion machine are really surprising. It is said that when he was just 8 years old, he started efforts to create nuclear fusion. Before building the machine, Aidan McMillan spent two years understanding the principles of nuclear physics that drive fusion. It has been reported in the news that only after this he started assembling the parts of the machine. Aidan also got involved with an organization called ‘Launchpad’, which helps students in science and engineering projects. Launchpad West is a non-profit makerspace in Dallas.
Aidan McMillan faced big challenges
Aidan McMillan told that it was not so easy to make a nuclear fusion device by taking four years. He said the effort was both rewarding and disappointing at the same time. The process involved constant setbacks, compromises, and security checks.
Aidan McMillan’s mother was concerned about the dangers of building a nuclear fusion machine. Aidan’s mother stressed that there should be complete information about possible mistakes and how to deal with them. Aidan said it was an emotional moment when the machine produced neutrons, confirming that fusion had occurred. It was the end of a long journey. Aidan also said that curiosity inspired him more than his ambition to create this machine.
