Student Of The Year After Dark OTT Release Date: When And Where To Watch Shanaya Kapoor’s First Web Series

On October 19, 2012, Karan Johar launched Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in the romantic drama Student of the Year. A sequel, Student of the Year 2, directed by Punit Malhotra, was released in 2019 with Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey in the lead roles. Now, seven years later, there’s a new entry in the franchise with Student of the Year: After Dark. Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, the web series will be launched on November 13 on JioHotstar. Directed by Reema Maya, the show will see Shanaya Kapoor make her web series debut.

On social media , who directed the first film, announced, “Nostalgia is working overtime this week!!! As we complete 14 years of our beloved SOTY franchise…we embark on a new journey taking it forward but it’s now in AFTER DARK! Gritty, gory, unabashed and absolute madness!!!! Gear up!” From the first glance, it’s clear that the new entrant is very different from the previous films. The short teaser indicates that the lead character played by Shanaya Kapoor meets a gruesome end.

Like the films, the web series is also set at St Teresa’s College. However, the story of the JioHotstar series goes into more of a darker territory with the cast including Divik Sharma and Manya Grover. Filmmaker Karan also revealed that Shanaya will be playing a double role in the upcoming series. He teased in a statement, “We began this franchise with big dreams in 2012 and now we’re breaking every rule we set. With Reema’s genre-defying direction and Shanaya’s powerful double-role performance, we’re setting the stage for something spectacular.”

Filmmaker Reema Maya has earlier directed the award-winning shorts Counterfeit Kunkoo and Nocturnal Burger. She shared that the show will not be what audiences will expect from the franchise. She revealed, “It is Student Of The Year, stripped to its bones and reimagined as a thriller competition web series. We had so much fun with the music of the show. The cast is young and incredibly talented!”

Meanwhile, Shanaya Kapoor, who was last seen in the thriller , said that her role in the web series is layered, flawed, and unapologetically real. Playing the character in the web series has been the most challenging and rewarding for her as an actor.
