Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has revealed his favorite moment from the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series between England and India, and it is one that Indian fans would definitely want to forget.
The third test of the ongoing five-match Test series was full of drama, tension, and heartbreak for India at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Also, it was a turning point in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England.
Stuart Broad recalls India’s Lord’s Test nightmare
England had set India a target of just 193 runs to win, which seemed very possible at first. India made a good start, but things started to fall apart late on Day 4. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill, and Akash Deep were cheaply dismissed and left India in a tricky situation.
Even then, there was hope, as Washington Sundar and the tailenders were still at the crease. Sundar looked calm and confident, and many fans believed India could pull off the win to take a lead in the ongoing Test series. But Day 5 saw a different story at the Lord’s.
On Day 5, England’s bowlers came out all guns blazing. Jofra Archer bowled with pace and accuracy, and India’s lower order couldn’t handle the pressure. Sundar, who was confident of leading India to a thrilling win, fell for a duck.
Mohammed Siraj’s wicket handed England a 2-1 lead in the Test series
He tried to push the ball off the back foot but ended up giving an easy catch. The timing of his dismissal and the sudden silence in the dressing room said it all. And just when it seemed like India could still go over the line, Mohammed Siraj was dismissed in the most unexpected way.
He defended a ball from Shoaib Bashir beautifully. It looked like a solid forward defense. But the ball somehow rolled back from his bat and hit the stumps. It was a rare and unlucky moment, and India had lost the third Test by 22 runs at Lord’s.
Stuart Broad picks Washington Sundar’s collapse as his favourite moment of Test series
And Stuart Broad, one of England’s greatest fast bowlers, has now recalled how confident Washington Sundar had looked at stumps on Day 4, and then how everything fell apart the next morning. That entire episode was most memorable for Broad.
Stuart Broad was quoted as saying by Sky Sports, “My favorite moment from the series was when Washington Sundar, in an interview before batting, said that ‘India would definitely win this Test.’ Washington Sundar chipped one back to Jofra Archer, a beautiful catch, and he went back for zero. It did make me smile.”
England just 35 runs away from lifting the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
England’s win in the third Test gave them a 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-match Test series. Now, with the Test series still wide open, both India and England will fight hard to win the game on the final day of the fifth and final Test at The Oval on August 4.
While England needs 35 runs to win the final Test and lift the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, India needs four wickets to level the Test series. They have not won a Test series in England since 2007.
