New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued an important order on the problem of stray dogs. The court has said in its interim order that stray dogs should be removed from roads and public places and patrolling teams should be formed for monitoring. Instructions have been given that animals like cattle and dogs should be shifted to safe places from all roads including national highways. For this, governments and national highway authorities will have to take steps. Patrolling teams should be appointed to detect animals. All state governments will have to take action to remove stray dogs from public places like government offices, sports complexes, bus stands and railway stations.
Steps should also be taken to prevent dogs from entering educational institutions. This matter should be checked daily. Steps will have to be taken within eight weeks to remove animals from national highways. Chief Secretaries will have to inform the Supreme Court about the things implemented. Caught stray dogs should be taken to shelter homes and sterilized. For this, local bodies including municipal corporations will have to take action. It has also been ordered that dogs caught after sterilization should not be released back to the same place. The Supreme Court has also made it clear in its interim order that arrangements should be made to prevent dogs from entering public places like hospitals.
