Holiday list of 2026 released
Domestic exchanges recently released the official trading holiday calendar for 2026, giving investors and traders information about non-trading days in the cash and derivatives segments. The schedule, notified under the bye-laws and F&O rules of the exchange, includes details of 15 full trading holidays throughout the year as well as holidays falling during weekend and annual muhurat trading sessions. There will be one more holiday in 2026 than this year.
A holiday extra in 2026
Equity, equity derivatives and currency derivatives markets will remain closed for 15 days in 2026. The year begins with Republic Day (26 January) and includes major religious and national holidays such as Holi (3 March), Ram Navami (26 March), Mahavir Jayanti (31 March) and Good Friday (3 April). Markets will also remain closed on Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14), Maharashtra Day (May 1) and Bakri Eid (May 28).
The second half of the year includes Muharram on 26 June, Ganesh Chaturthi on 14 September and Gandhi Jayanti on 2 October. Dussehra is on 20th October, followed by Diwali Balipratipada on 10th November and Guru Nanak Jayanti on 24th November. The last business holiday of the year will be Christmas on December 25. A small surprise in this circular is that there is no mention of any holiday for Diwali, because it is falling on a weekend (Sunday).
