Kolkata: The stock market will be closed today, March 31. This also happens to be the last day of the current financial year. This the third market holiday this month apart from the regular weekend holidays. If the weekend holidays are taken into account, the stock market remained closed for as many as 13 days this month — a rare phenomenon. As a result there will be no trading in any section of BSE and NSE.
Market holidays for rest of 2026
According to the calendar of holidays of BSE and NSE, the equity market will be closed on the following days for the rest of this year. These are as follows:
April 3: Friday on account of Good Friday
April 14: Tuesday on account of Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti
May 1: Friday on account of Maharashtra Day
May 28: Thursday on account of Bakri Id
June 26: Friday on account of Muharram
Sept 14: Monday on account of Ganesh Chaturthi
Oct 2: Friday on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
Oct 20: Tuesday on account of Dussehra
Nov 10: Tuesday on account of Diwali-Balipratipada
Nov 24: Tuesday on account of Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev
Dec 25: Friday on account of Christmas
Apart from the above, a few holidays have coincided with weekends. Therefore, the market will not be separately closed to observe those days. These holidays for the rest of the year consist of August 15 which is a Saturday and Nob 8 is a Sunday when Diwali, Laxmi Puja will be held. Muhurat Trading will be conducted on Nov 8, for which the timing will be communicated later.
Bank holiday
Banks in the country will be closed in several state today. It has been communicated that some specific branches of banks handling government business will remain open for year-end transactions. However, as usual, all digital banking services will remain open round the clock. Also, the neigbourhood ATM will be offer uninterrupted service. Banks will be closed in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.
