The difficulties for America’s famous space agency NASA have increased. It is reported that the job of more than 2 thousand employees is going to be lost in NASA. Most of them are people who are working on big missions like moon and Mars. The reason is Donald Trump Sarkar’s decision to cut a huge cut in NASA budget. This news has put NASA employees and space lovers in the can.
2,145 employees are going to know
A recent report by American media house Politico has exposed the case. The report quoted NASA’s internal documents as saying that a total of 2,145 senior employees are going to go. These are the employees who come in the rank of GS-15 from GS-13. That is, they have either special technical skills or a big responsibility for management. About 1,818 of these people are working on missions like Science, Human Space Flight. The rest are in support rolls like Admin, IT, Finance or Management.
NASA has given some options to these employees, such as taking early retirement, voluntary byout or leaving the responsibility after a few months. NASA spokesperson Bethani Stevens told Reuters that the agency is trying to fulfill its responsibilities even in a low budget. She is working closely with the government so that America remains at the forefront of the search for space and the mission of the moon-mars gets success.
Which centers are the most affected?
According to Politico, many big centers of NASA are in the grip of this cut. The most impact is on these centers:
- Godard (Maryland): 607 employees
- Johnson (Texas): 366 employees
- Kennedy (Florida): 311 employees
- NASA Headquarters (Washington): 283 employees
- Langley (Virginia): 281 employees
- Marshal (Alabama): 279 employees
- Glenn (Ohio): 191 employees
Preparations for the missions of moon and Mars are going on loudly in these centers. Such experienced employees can go together to be a big shock for NASA. Especially when the deadline of the mission is fixed in the coming years for the moon and in the coming years for Mars.
Proposal for a heavy cut of 25% in the budget
The White House has proposed a huge cut of 25% in NASA’s 2026 budget. If it passes, then the situation may worsen. It is estimated that this can lead to more than 5,000 employees. That is, NASA may have to work with the lowest budget and employees after the 1960s.
However, this budget proposal of the White House is yet to be approved by the Congress. If the Congress rejects it, NASA may get some relief. In March, a committee of Senate had said that it is in favor of saving NASA staff. But if this cut is implemented, it will not be easy for NASA to complete its mission.
