Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM is preparing a third front for the 2025 elections in Bihar. The party will contest 32 seats, especially in Seemanchal, where it had won 5 seats in 2020. This move may affect the vote bank of the Grand Alliance.
Patna: This time, neither Lalu Prasad Yadav nor Nitish Kumar is the new cause of stir in Bihar politics. This time, Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi is in the headlines, who has again started sparking the third front in Bihar politics. Till now the battle for Bihar has traditionally been fought between two poles. NDA vs grand alliance. But the picture may be different in 2025. Owaisi has clearly said that the public now wants a third option, not two. With this announcement, AIMIM has announced to field its candidates on 32 seats.
Party’s state president Akhtarul Iman has also confirmed this. He told that AIMIM is preparing to contest elections in 16 districts of the state. That means, from Seemanchal to Madhubani, this time Owaisi wants to register his presence in every political equation of Bihar.
Owaisi’s new stronghold Seemanchal
In the 2020 assembly elections, AIMIM had achieved unexpected success in Seemanchal. Amour, Bayasi, Jokihat, Bahadurganj and Kochadhaman were the five seats where the party surprised everyone by registering victory. It was from here that the political journey of Owaisi’s party started in Bihar. Seemanchal is also important because the Muslim population here is about 47%. This figure reaches 68% in Kishanganj, 44.5% in Katihar, 43% in Araria and about 39% in Purnia. AIMIM’s influence is naturally increasing in this area, and this is becoming Owaisi’s main “power zone”.
Shock in 2022, now preparations for comeback
However, the party suffered a major setback in 2022 when four MLAs left AIMIM and joined RJD. Only Akhtarul Iman remained in the party. After that the discussion started that the Bihar chapter of AIMIM is now over. But Owaisi’s style was never to accept defeat. They started building the organization again, connecting local leaders, and now that same network is becoming the framework of the Third Front in 2025.
Owaisi in search of new allies
Interestingly, Owaisi recently told that he had also sent an alliance proposal to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, but he did not get any response. Now AIMIM is openly saying that it will make its own path. According to political sources, Owaisi is trying to join hands with smaller parties and regional organizations. Especially the focus is on strengthening the hold among the backward classes, Dalits and Muslim youth. If AIMIM is successful in this, then this alliance can become a headache for both NDA and Grand Alliance.
Who will suffer loss, who will benefit?
Experts believe that AIMIM’s activism on Seemanchal seats can make a dent in the vote bank of the Grand Alliance. Because traditionally Muslim and Yadav voters play a decisive role in these seats. If Muslim votes shift towards Owaisi, RJD will directly suffer loss. At the same time, this “split vote” can prove beneficial for NDA. But on the other hand, if Owaisi is successful in increasing his hold outside Seemanchal, then he himself can come to the position of “kingmaker”.
Third Front or New Vote Bank?
Owaisi says, “We want to give voice to those people in Bihar who till now were considered only as vote bank.” His statement clearly indicates that this time AIMIM wants to contest not just on Muslim votes but on the agenda of social justice and development.
