Statue of Liberty replica in Brazil falls due to storm

Guaiba: A replica of the Statue of Liberty collapsed in the Brazilian city of Guaiba on Monday afternoon after the region was hit by a severe storm. Local authorities and the company that owns the structure confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.

The nearly 40-metre-tall statue, installed in the parking area of a Havan retail megastore near a fast-food outlet, was struck by intense winds as a powerful line of storms swept across southern Brazil. Dramatic footage circulating online showed the towering structure bending under the force of the wind before toppling over and breaking apart. The statue’s head was crushed on impact.
