New Delhi: SpaceX Starlink, the satellite internet service, was hit by a massive outage Thursday. Internet outages were reported by the users in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, and the Philippines. The worst-hit cities were major cities around the U.S.: Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Seattle, and Washington, DC.
The news of the blackout reached a peak in a few minutes. Outage tracking site DownDetector registered more than 58,000 complaints by users at its peak around 3:24 p.m. ET, compared with only 3,400 several minutes prior. Although the figures began to decrease after 4 p.m., service problems persisted during the night.
Service will be restored shortly.

SpaceX scrambles to restore connectivity
On its website, Starlink recognised the disturbance and said that crews were still working on the problem. On social media site X, the firm assured the users that they were working on a solution and appreciated their patience.
Elon Musk also commented upon the outage on X, stating, Service will be up soon. Apologies for the outage. SpaceX will fix the root cause so that it does not occur in the future.”
Users vent online amid global outage
The outage led to a lot of chatter on websites such as Reddit, where people made jokes about the timing of the blackout. One user commented, “I informed a person an hour ago about the reliability of Starlink… obviously, my fault.” Another just posted, “It’s worldwide.”
Some users had reported connected service by Thursday evening. But the complete recovery of the world was not yet achieved by the time of writing.
