Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, along with all-rounder Ashutosh Sharma, delivered impressive performances in England’s One-Day Cup on Friday.
Kuldeep made a winning debut for Yorkshire with both bat and ball, while Ashutosh continued his excellent form by taking four wickets for Hampshire. Chahal also picked up two wickets for Northamptonshire despite his team’s defeat.
Kuldeep Yadav takes two wickets on Yorkshire debut
Kuldeep Yadav made a memorable debut for Yorkshire in the One-Day Cup against Glamorgan. The left-arm wrist spinner finished with figures of 2 wickets for 39 runs.
Kuldeep bowled well throughout his spell but had to wait until his final over to get his first wicket. He dismissed Alex Horton on the first ball of the 44th over. Just two deliveries later, he removed Jamie McIlroy, ending his spell with two quick wickets in three balls.
Yorkshire’s bowling attack did an excellent job as they bowled Glamorgan out for 186 runs. Right-arm pacer Benjamin Cliff was the star with 4 wickets for 29 runs.
Kuldeep also made a useful contribution with the bat, scoring 12 runs. Yorkshire chased the target successfully and won the match by two wickets.
Ashutosh Sharma continues impressive run
Ashutosh Sharma, who impressed everyone with his batting in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is now making headlines with his bowling in England.
Playing for Hampshire against Middlesex, Ashutosh took 4 wickets for 45 runs in his nine-over spell.
He broke a century partnership by dismissing Nathan Fernandes for 45 runs in the 22nd over. Later, during the death overs, he picked up three more wickets and helped Hampshire restrict Middlesex to 284/8 in 50 overs.
This was another strong performance from Ashutosh. In his previous One-Day Cup match against Yorkshire, he had also bowled nine overs, gave away only 48 runs, and claimed three wickets on his debut.
Yuzvendra Chahal picks up two wickets
Experienced leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also had a decent outing in the tournament.
Representing Northamptonshire, Chahal claimed 2 wickets against Kent. However, his efforts were not enough as Northamptonshire lost the match by five wickets.
Chahal has been out of the Indian team for a long time, but performances like these could help him stay in the selectors’ plans.
India’s ODI squad for West Indies series could see changes
The Indian cricket team will play a three-match ODI series against West Indies from September 27 to October 3.
The series will take place during the Asian Games men’s cricket tournament, which means several players could be unavailable. Because of this, the Indian selectors are expected to make a number of changes to the ODI squad, giving opportunities to some new faces and fringe players.
