New Delhi: Gurugram-based SS Innovations has indigenously developed the Mantra surgical robot, a module platform that is the first in the country to be certified for telesurgeries by CDSCO. Founding Chairman of SS Innovations Group, Dr Sudhir Srivastava, has signed an MoU with the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR), to establish a Robotic Cardiac Surgery Centre and training hub in Chikkaballapur, Karnataka. As part of the MoU, Dr Srivastava will be donating a Mantra system, supporting the first 100 robotic surgeries, and lead the surgeon training programme at SMSIMSR, and cover the full maintenance costs for the Mantra over the next five years.
Dr Srivastava left behind a successful practice in the US to return to India with a mission to provide democratic and affordable access to robotic surgeries. These procedures can be conducted with smaller incisions, allowing for faster recovery time and better patient outcomes. Srivastava said, “My collaboration with SMSIMSR exemplifies the spirit of service and innovation. By combining cutting-edge, indigenously developed technology with a mission rooted in inclusive and accessible healthcare, we are taking a meaningful step toward transforming surgical care in India. The ultimate goal is not just to advance the field of robotic surgery, but to ensure that its life-saving benefits reach underserved and rural communities that need it the most.”
The future of robotic telesurgery
SMSIMSR does not even have a cash counter, and is on a mission to not compromise on the quality of care provided to the patients. Shri Madhusudan Sai has healthcare projects in Fiji, with a focus on paediatric care. SSI is developing the first surgical robotics for paediatric care. The platform consists of up to five mobile scooters with robotic arms, and can be configured according to the requirements of the procedure. These robotic arms can be manipulated remotely. The technology has the potential to provide world-class healthcare even in remote locations such as Fiji.
During the signing of the MoU, Shri Sadguru Madhusudan Sai said, “We are honored to welcome Dr. Sudhir Srivastava as an Honorary Professor at SMSIMSR, his global expertise and visionary leadership will be invaluable in shaping the future of robotic surgery in India. This partnership marks a new chapter in our journey to make quality healthcare a fundamental right, not a privilege. By integrating advanced surgical technologies with a compassionate care model, we are bridging the gap between innovation and inclusion.”
