Pm modi visit Srisailam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid homage to the ancient spiritual traditions of the country by offering prayers at the Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple located in Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh. This temple is not only one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, but is also included in the fifty-two Shaktipeeths. Its most unique feature is that here both Lord Shiva and Mother Shakti are present in the same temple complex. This is why Srisailam is called a wonderful confluence of faith.

Confluence place of Shiva and Shakti

The most unique and special identity of Srisailam temple is its rare combination, where this temple is revered as ‘Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga’, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, while ‘Bhramaramba Shaktipeeth’, one of the 52 Shaktipeeths of Goddess Sati, is also present here. This feature makes this temple unique and most special in the entire country. According to Hindu beliefs, the neck part of Goddess Sati’s body had fallen here, due to which this place became Shaktipeeth. At the same time, Lord Shiva resided at this place in the form of Mallikarjuna. In this way this place provides a rare opportunity for the devotees to have darshan of Shiva and Shakti at one place.

‘Kailash of the South’, the gate of salvation

According to mythological beliefs, Srisailam temple is also called ‘Kailash of the South’. This place is not only considered to fulfill the wishes of the devotees, but there is a strong belief that just by visiting this place, a person gets freedom from the cycle of rebirth and attains salvation. Mallikarjuna Lingam is considered to be Swayambhu (self-manifested) here. The architecture and antiquity of the temple also attracts devotees. This temple is a fine example of Dravidian style architecture with tall gopurams, intricately carved pillars and massive walls.

Religious and historical importance of the temple

The glory of Srisailam temple is described in many scriptures like Skanda Purana, Shiva Purana and Linga Purana. It is believed that Lord Kartikeya himself had performed penance here and Mother Parvati had killed the demons in the form of Bhramar (Bhanvare) at this place, hence the name of the goddess was Bhramaramba. Mallikarjuna means Mallika i.e. Parvati and Arjun means Shiva, that is, this temple is actually a symbol of the unity of Shiva-Parvati.
