Sri Lanka triumphed over Bangladesh by four wickets in the tenth match of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026, securing their place in the semifinals.
This victory marks Sri Lanka’s third consecutive win in the tournament, placing them at the top of the Group B points table.
Batting first after losing the toss, Bangladesh managed to score 114 runs but lost eight wickets in the process. The opening partnership between Dilara Akhter and Juwairia Firdous yielded 31 runs off 29 balls. Firdous was dismissed for 14 runs from 10 balls, which included three boundaries.
Following her dismissal, Dilara Akhter contributed 26 runs, but the team struggled, reaching just 52 runs for the loss of three wickets by the 9.5-over mark. Shobhana Mostari then formed a crucial partnership with Shorna Akhter, scoring 41 runs for the fourth wicket off 40 balls, bringing the team closer to a respectable total. Mostari topped the scoring for her side with 34 runs off 41 balls, hitting four fours.
For Sri Lanka, Chamudi Prabodhya was the standout bowler, taking three wickets for just 21 runs in four overs. Sugandhika Kumari also impressed with two wickets, while captain Chamari Athapaththu and Kavisha Dilhari claimed one wicket each.
In response, Sri Lanka faced early challenges, losing captain Athapaththu for just one run at a score of seven. They found themselves in further trouble at 44 runs with five wickets down. However, Nilakshika Silva and Harshitha Samarawickrama steadied the innings with a vital sixth-wicket partnership of 38 runs, taking the score to 82.
Nilakshika scored 18 runs before her dismissal, but Harshitha continued to anchor the innings. She partnered with Kaushani Nuthyangna to add 33 runs for the seventh wicket in just 18 balls, ultimately leading Sri Lanka to victory. Harshitha remained unbeaten on 48 runs off 37 balls, hitting two sixes and four fours, while Kaushani contributed an unbeaten 11 runs off nine balls.
Marufa Akhter was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, claiming three wickets for 21 runs, with Sultana Khatun and Ritu Moni each taking one wicket.
