Simone Inzaghi emphasises the importance of managing his squad effectively as he aims to balance Inter’s Serie A title pursuit with their Champions League final.
After a 2-0 win over Torino, Inzaghi made significant changes following their aggregate victory against Barcelona. Key players like Lautaro Martinez and Benjamin Pavard were absent, while others such as Yann Sommer and Denzel Dumfries were benched.
Inzaghi, overseeing his 150th Serie A match for Inter, witnessed goals from Kristjan Asllani and Nicola Zalewski securing the win. This achievement makes him only the second manager to secure at least 100 victories with two different top-flight teams, having previously achieved this with Lazio. He rotates his squad to prevent fatigue during the long season as they aim for both Serie A and Champions League success.
Inzaghi explained that resting players is essential after a demanding season. “I need to give some players rest time after a long and hard season,” he told Sky Sport Italia. Facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, Inzaghi doubts any absent players will return for the next match against Lazio but remains hopeful for their availability against Como.
Despite not having the financial resources of clubs like PSG or Manchester City, Inzaghi believes in Inter’s organisational strength. “People say Inter have a small squad but we don’t have the budget of PSG, Manchester City or Bayern Munich, so we need to be better in terms of organisation,” he stated. He remains confident that with determination, they can compete against any team.
Before Napoli’s 2-2 draw with Genoa, Inzaghi acknowledged that the title race is not entirely under their control with two games left. Johan Vasquez’s late equaliser for Genoa reduced Napoli’s lead to just one point. “I said before the game, unfortunately the Scudetto is no longer in our hands,” Inzaghi remarked.
He stressed the importance of maintaining focus and delivering strong performances against tough opponents. “We needed a tough performance and that’s what it was,” he added after facing a team unbeaten at home.
Inzaghi also praised Nicola Zalewski’s performance, highlighting his versatility on the field. “He is doing very well and has a lot of quality,” Inzaghi noted. Zalewski’s early goal came from an impressive solo effort, showcasing his skills as both a mezzala and wing-back.

As Inter navigates these challenges, Inzaghi remains focused on strategic squad management to achieve their goals this season. Balancing player rest with competitive matches is crucial as they aim for success in both domestic and European competitions.
