Audio streaming platform Spotify has raised the prices for the Indian subscribers, along with a few other markets. All the people who are already Spotify subscribers will be charged the new prices from the next billing cycle.
However, anyone who is just starting their Spotify journey will be required to pay the new prices for the subscription. That being said, all the new users will still have the chance to explore the Spotify Premium one-month trial for free.
Spotify Price Hike In India
The basic Spotify individual premium plan will now be available in the Indian market for Rs 139, which is a Rs 20 bump in the original price. Apart from that, the Premium Duo plan of Spotify will now cost Rs 179 instead of its original price, which was Rs 149 on a monthly basis. Similarly, the Spotify family plan that was available for Rs 179 per month will now be up for grabs at Rs 229 per month. That’s not it, as the platform has also bumped the price of the Student Plan from Rs 59 to Rs 69.
Reason Behind Spotify’s Price Hike In India
Spotify increased the prices in multiple regions across the globe following a not-so-impressive financial performance of the company, as it also missed its revenue projection. Nonetheless, in India, it is a rare phenomenon as Spotify has never increased the pricing in the country since its launch.
Spotify is also facing tough competition in the Indian market from YouTube as the platform offers Premium for both its video streaming and music app for just Rs 149. Multiple users on forums like Reddit suggest that they moved from Spotify to YouTube Music because the latter offers a better library, algorithm, and more. The road ahead for Spotify seems like a rough one in a price-sensitive market like India.
