New Delhi: Spotify has introduced a new feature called Prompted Playlists,it allows users to create playlists by typing what you want in plain language. Earlier AI playlist tools often felt basic or limited, but this update is meant to work more like explaining your mood or idea to a close friend who listens carefully. You can now write longer and clearer instructions, and Spotify says the system will try to build a playlist that matches your overall taste, not just whatever you listened to recently.
The aim of this feature is to give people more control over how their music is organised. It’s similar to features like Discover Weekly or Daily Mix but with far more freedom to shape the mood, pace, and style. Whether someone wants nostalgic songs, workout tracks with a steady rhythm, or music inspired by current films, the feature is designed to adjust to the user’s exact request, however this feature is still in beta.

The main difference comes from the upgraded AI behind the feature. According to Spotify, this new system can understand longer prompts and has a wider sense of general knowledge. Because of that, the range of prompts can be very broad. You can ask for something simple, like “songs from my favourite artists in the last five years,” or you can give a very detailed instruction, such as “high-energy pop and hip-hop for a 30-minute 5K run, followed by calm music for the cool-down.” You can even ask for rare songs from artists you already like but haven’t discovered yet.

Another change is how deeply the tool can look into your listening habits. Earlier playlists leaned heavily on your most recent songs. Now, Prompted Playlists can pull from years of your past favourites, which means the results can feel more accurate and more personal. You can also choose how often the playlist updates. Spotify is also adding more transparency. Each playlist will come with a short note explaining why certain tracks were added. This is basically a small explanation from the algorithm, so listeners can understand the choices rather than guessing how the list came together.
