SpiceJet Expansion: Airline to add 100 new flights to boost capacity amid IndiGo chaos

New Delhi: The aviation industry is in the news for the huge delays and cancellations of IndiGo flights. Taking stock of the situation, the government cut down the IndiGo routes by 10 percent. Meanwhile, SpiceJet has decided to exponentially expand its operations. The company has said that it can start up to 100 new daily flights during this winter schedule. According to the airline, the demand on many major routes is increasing rapidly and it is ready to operate flights.

SpiceJet to add 100 new flights

SpiceJet said that up to 100 new flights can be added to the winter schedule. This increase is being done keeping in mind the increasing demand at the route level. The company said that this extension will depend on regulatory approval. This will further strengthen the company’s market presence.

IndiGo has been in the news recently for non-compliance with FDTL rules. After this, the Centre ordered a reduction of IndiGo’s winter flights by 10 percent. The government says that this will help IndiGo to stabilize its operations. This led to a decrease in the available capacity in the market, which SpiceJet will now complete.

SpiceJet share

After this news, SpiceJet’s stock traded with a marginal rise. At the time of writing this article, the share was at Rs 34.30 apiece.

SpiceJet said that in the last few weeks it has inducted 17 aircraft back into active operations. These aircraft were added through damp lease and the return of the company’s own fleet. This has improved the operational efficiency of the company.

Preparing to increase capacity

SpiceJet says that with the increased fleet, the company will get an opportunity to deploy more capacity on high demand routes. This will strengthen the network and provide better connectivity to passengers. The company is working on a plan to increase its reach by adding aircraft even further.
